day 03 – A Song That Makes You Happy
A song that undoubtedly puts a smile on my face would have to be “John Lennon – Oh Yoko!”. This song, written by John to express his love for Yoko is just beautiful. A gorgeous song that appeared on the “Imagine” album in 1971, shortly after the Beatles had broken up. It is if John was saying to Yoko “no matter what people are saying about you, I love you more than anything else”.
A Simple song, composed on the piano that John had in his home, the same one that the infamous “Imagine” was written (Which also appears on this album) This song consists of a happy tune on piano, a simple rock beat on the drums, and a basic bass rhythm to tie it all together. The lyrics are a timeless message to his wife Yoko, with each verse telling of another way he loves her.
He sings of the early morning (in the middle of the night), just after waking up (in the middle of a bath & in the middle of a shave), when he is sleeping (in the middle of a dream) and finally, any time he is feeling down (in the middle of a cloud). At each of these times, he thinks of her and calls her name, showing how in love with her he is.
At this point of his career, he was being ridiculed by die-hard beatles fans for leaving the beatles and causing their breakup (this blame also fell on Yoko, as before she came along, his focus was the music) Yoko was receiving death threats from these fans, telling her to leave him so the beatles could reform. John’s response to this were his many solo albums with amazing hits that would span 10 years. longer than the beatles were together. Many of these songs were written for or about Yoko, either known or unknown to the fans.
